About the artist
Karsten Schmidt (aka toxi) is a German computational designer and generative artist whose work merges code, design, art, and craft. Originally from East Germany, Schmidt's career began in the 8-bit demo scene and has evolved into a multidisciplinary practice exploring the creative potential of open-source technologies. His work spans installations, graphic design, and embedded systems, often pushing the boundaries of generative art and software culture. A pioneer in the field, Schmidt was an early contributor to the Processing project and has authored multiple books on programming and graphic design. His work has been exhibited internationally at institutions such as MoMA, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
