About the artist
Casey Reas is a Los Angeles-based artist who has used software as a primary medium since the early 2000s, building generative systems that unfold over time across prints, drawings, video and installation. His work explores variation, repetition and emergence, drawing on conceptual and systems-based art to make process visible, through series including Process, Century and Compressed Cinema. In 2001 he co-founded Processing with Ben Fry, the open-source language that brought creative coding to a generation of artists and designers, and founded the Processing Foundation in 2012. A professor in UCLA's Department of Design Media Arts since 2003, he has exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art, LACMA, SFMOMA, the Centre Pompidou and the V&A.
